Sharrock has taken on the role having been chief operating officer at WRG since 2012 when he joined from Trinity Mirror, where he was managing director of MEN Media.

The appointment follows last week’s (26 November) announcement that former W&O managing director Andrew Gilkerson has joined the agency as client & procurement director.

Sharrock said: "Having managed the business throughout 2014, I’m now very much looking forward to taking WRG to even greater success as we expand, employ and engage in more ways than ever before throughout 2015 and beyond."

WRG chairman Jim Faulds added: "David is a hugely respected and experienced leader within WRG and the industry at large. Under his guidance, WRG has seen great success over the last 12 months, and I am delighted to announce his appointment as the company’s new Chief Executive."

Earlier this month (19 November), WRG opened a new office in Basel, Switzerland as part of its continued expansion in the healthcare sector.
