Royal Caribbean held a two-day pre-inaugural cruise for the media and travel trade to mark the launch of its latest state-of-the-art vessel, Quantum of the Seas.

The event took place from 31 October to 2 November, with passengers boarding the ship - the most technologically advanced vessel ever to sail - at Southampton Docks and sailing to Cornwall, before returning to Southampton.

Over two days, guests were wowed by a bionic bar, where cocktails were prepared by robots, skydiving experience Ripcord by iFly and the chance to board the North Star, a capsule similar to those on the London Eye, that ascends more than 300 feet above sea level, offering 360-degree views.

Passengers had the chance to ride dodgem cars in Seaplex, the largest indoor active space at sea, which also offers a circus school, a full-size basketball court and the first-ever roller rink at sea. Entertainment included West End show Mamma Mia and Starmaker,

Guests also experienced Royal Caribbean's Dynamic Dining option, which offers passengers five complimentary full-service restaurants to choose from, ranging from upscale to casual.

Quantum of the Seas' conference centre is located on Deck 13, while the Royal Theatre with a capacity of 1,300 can also be used for events.

The ship departed on an eight-day journey to New York on the evening of 2 November. Quantum of the Seas is the first Quantum-class cruise ship by Royal Caribbean and is the third-largest in the world, carrying 4,095 passengers. Sister ships Anthem of the Seas launches in spring 2015 and Ovation of the Seas in mid-2016.
