The flagship property is the latest addition to the Dorsett Hospitality International portfolio and the company’s first UK property.

Guests at the party included local west London businesses, council representatives from the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, corporate clients, VIP press from the UK, Hong Kong, China and Malaysia, and friends of the Dorsett brand.

In homage to the company’s Chinese roots, the celebration was given an east-meets-west theme, with guests met by a London Beefeater and a Chinese terracotta warrior at the door.

The hotel’s lobby, Jin bar and Pictures restaurant were furnished with Oscars-style red carpet, lanterns and quirky touches including china British bulldogs and lucky Fortune Cats. A string quartet, Chinese drummers, aerial artistes and magician Fay Presto provided the entertainment.

Guests enjoyed Champagne and dim sum prepared by the team at Shikumen, the new Chinese fine-dining restaurant adjacent to the hotel. Pictures restaurant was transformed into a sweet fairground, with stalls serving Dorsett-blue candy floss, a Mr Whippy ice cream machine, and a chocolate fountain.

London Mayor Boris Johnson sent a surprise video welcoming Dorsett Hotels to the capital, declaring: "Dorsett Shepherds Bush: I en-Dorsett".
