PCO Contendam has ceased trading, less than one year after it rebranded from Congrex UK, following a management buyout.

Professional conference organiser Contendam, based in Glasgow and Hammersmith, London, has closed and will go into liquidation today (30 October).

It is understood that around 15 staff have been affected by the closure.

This follows the departure of Contendam CEO Rob Harrison in September, who led a management buyout of Congrex UK in October 2013 after a number of Congrex branches across Europe filed for bankruptcy.

Event company Shocklogic has bought all of Contendam's client contracts with 15 different associations, including the British Society for Immunology's conference, which will take place in December. Shocklogic will provide abstract management and registration services for the event.

Christian Olsen, who took over as CEO on Harrison's departure last month, has been unavailable for comment.

Meanwhile, Contendam managing director Susan Hayden and commercial director Caroline MacKenzie have joined Zibrant to set up a new association services offering.

Speaking to C&IT today, former CEO Rob Harrison said: "When I left, Contendam had moved forward financially from where it was a year ago. It is a shame if the decision has been made to put the company in to liquidation."
