The launch of a Japanese branch of the company is another step Positive Impact is taking towards creating a global sustainable event industry by 2020.

Fiona Pelham, founder and managing director of Positive Impact, said: "I am passionate about Japanese culture and excited that Japan is the first place in the world to be a Positive Impact secretariat.

"Over the next few years, we look forward to creating a sustainable event industry in Japan."

Positive Impact promotes a global standard for sustainability management, ISO 20121, whilst Cerespo has established The Institute of Sustainable Events to help develop research, products and services relating to sustainability in the events industry.

CEO of Cerespo, Nabuaki Koshikawa, added: "Sustainability and legacy in events have been attracting attention in Japan since London 2012, and Tokyo 2020 will be held in Japan.

"I am very excited to spread best practice in event sustainability from the UK to Japan through our international collaboration, and I would like to thank the members of Positive Impact for giving Cerespo a great opportunity."
