The Victoria Falls International Airport will accommodate more than three times more passengers than the current airport and will have an annual capacity of 1.2m international travellers and 500,000 domestic passengers.
The £92m development will include a new international terminal building and renovation of the existing building into a domestic terminal.
Also included will be a 2.8 mile runway capable of landing the largest passenger planes including the A380.
Ross Kennedy, chief executive, Africa Albida Tourism, said: "The Victoria Falls Airport is going to be a massive game changer, not only for Zimbabwe, but for the region.
"We will have a new airport capable of landing and handling, in all conditions, long haul wide body jets. This would turn Victoria Falls into a new regional hub, firstly for tourism, but it also has the potential to become a commercial centre".
