Patel will act as chief financial officer for the global Grass Roots Group and will sit on the group board and on the Executive Leadership Team.

Previously, Patel served nine years as the BBC's longest-serving CFO. She had overall responsibility for the BBC Finance & Business division, sat on the BBC's Executive Board and was also a non-executive director of BBC Worldwide. Prior to the BBC, Patel worked for KPMG.

Richard Bandell, Grass Roots CEO, said: "I’m very pleased to confirm Zarin’s appointment – she is going to play an important role in the fast growth we anticipate here at Grass Roots.

"Her expertise, energy and creativity are undeniable and I know she will bring a host of innovative ideas to the organisation. She has a reputation for excellent leadership skills and I have no doubt that our financial teams around the world are going to be energised under her direction."

Patel added: "The company’s mission is to create value for clients by inspiring people to deliver outstanding results, and this is something I feel strongly about and can connect with. The organisation has an ambitious vision for growth, is passionate about customer and employee engagement and is a great place to work."

The Grass Roots Meetings & Events division recently announced the expansion of its strategic meetings management services into Germany.

Grass Roots also recently secured an account with Ford.
