Leeds Metropolitan University, which offers event management degrees, has been appointed following a three-way pitch.

MPI created the boot camp after receiving a £15,000 grant from the MPI Foundation and around 30 event professionals, including CWT Meetings & Events, have already signed up.

The boot camp will be the UK’s first training programme to support people working in the meetings industry, with educational content being provided by the UK Centre for Events Management at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Ian Cummings, managing director of CWT Meetings & Events UK & Ireland, said: "The industry has for some time lacked any credible programme of professional education for event planners, which is readily available in other communication sectors.

"CWT Meetings & Events welcomes this initiative from MPI UK & Ireland and the involvement of our team members in this programme highlights our continued commitment to the professionalism of our people and the event sector."

At the end of the two days, delegates will be rewarded with Certified Meeting Professional designation, a qualification held by more than 14,000 event professionals worldwide.

The content will focus on strategic planning, project management, financial and risk management, marketing, site selection and HR, as well as offering participants Continuing Education (CE) credits.

MPI announced the launch of the CMP boot camps in March, with plans to deliver more programmes in the near future.
