Grand Central Hotel
Located on Glasgow’s Style Mile is the Grand Central Hotel. The property first opened its doors in 1883 and, with its history of once hosting some of the biggest names in show business, it is billed as an icon of the city.

More recently it underwent a £20m refurbishment, increasing its room stock by 40 for a total of 230 and updating its 21 meeting spaces, which sit on two storeys of the hotel. The Grand Room is its largest space with a capacity for 400 as well as modern conference facilities and AV equipment.

Radisson Blu Hotel
Glasgow’s Radisson Blu Hotel will have certainly seen much of the Commonwealth Games crowd with a location adjacent to Glasgow Central station, which since the first day of the Games has seen almost 1.5 million passengers pass through.

The 250-room property is a five-star offering for guests wanting to stay in the heart of Glasgow and large meeting spaces mean it is equally as attractive to business travellers. A total of 14 meeting rooms and three large event spaces, including Megalithic with capacity for 550 for a dinner and 800 theatre-style, are available, as well as free wi-fi and two private bars.

CitizenM Glasgow
With hotels in New York, London, Paris, Rotterdam and Amsterdam, CitizenM’s presence in Glasgow illustrates the appeal of Scotland’s largest city. CitizenM Glasgow prides itself on being trendy, modern and affordable with stylish features running throughout.

The lobby is designed like a living room and each of the 198 rooms is equipped with an XL king-size bed. Event space, though minimal, follows suit with the quirkily named SocietyM accommodating up to 18 delegates with AV equipment and free wi-fi.

Blythswood Square
Blythswood Square, a luxury five-star spa hotel, can be found in Glasgow’s city centre, minutes from the Central station and surrounded by the city’s top attractions.

The hotel includes 100 rooms and a range of smart event facilities, including a custom-designed 52-seat meeting table. Events for up to 120 can be held in its Monte Carlo Suite, while drinks receptions for 80 can take place in its Rally Bar, with an award-winning cocktail book available for some light reading.

Millennium Hotel Glasgow
The 116-room Millennium Hotel Glasgow is located in George Square, one of the city’s most historic areas and the place to find a selection of high-end restaurants and retail outlets.

The property’s transport links (Queen Street Railway Station is located opposite the property) and a selection of studio and executive suites mean its events offering is more the capable of keeping up with the competition. Its six conference rooms can each facilitate groups from between six and 40 delegates for conferences, dinners and smaller meetings.

C&IT caught up with Glasgow City Marketing Bureau's head of conventions, Aileen Crawford, to see how the city and its events infrastructure can benefit from the Commonwealth Games 2014.
