Barcelonian clothing brand Desigual has designed 18 rooms, two junior suites and a loft space at the Barcelona Princess hotel, which was unveiled in the autumn of 2013. The ‘Life is Cool’ Desigual Loft features a bar with views of the city’s skyline, a mural, pouffes, low tables and countless traditional Desigual patchwork rugs, which is ideal for informal meetings. Located on Barcelona’s world-famous Avinguda Diagonal, the Barcelona Princess has 363 bedrooms, 500 sqm of meeting rooms, including a multi-use area for cocktail parties for up to 250 people.
Hotel SB Plaza Europa
Among the big hotel openings of 2014, the Hotel SB Plaza Europa was one of the first. The property has 242 energy-efficient rooms, a distinct library area and a memorable 500sqm pool terrace. It has six customisable meeting rooms, which can offer up to 175sqm of space.
Hotel Catalonia Square
The Hotel Catalonia Square also has major sights close by, being next to Plaza Catalunya. The 58 modern rooms were opened to the public in March 2014, and its large Salon Ducal can hold up to 300 people, or be broken up into smaller spaces. A quirky new meeting space will open in late 2014.
Mandarin Oriental Barcelona
The 98-room Mandarin Oriental Barcelona, housed in a renovated mid-20th century building, opened two outdoor venues in June. The Mimosa Garden provides a courtyard oasis-styled space while the Terrat is located on the hotel’s rooftop, offering panoramic, sweeping vistas over the city.
Looking further ahead, there are plans to turn the former Deutsche Bank building into a five-star 150-room property operated under the Four Seasons brand, but this won’t be before 2017.
