Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has acquired the certification programme from the International Medical Meeting Professionals Association (IMMPA).

The certification programme was launched in 2013 and is accredited through Saint Louis University, Missouri in the US.

This follows the news that MPI is to revise its CMM programme after proposed changes were criticised.

Miguel Neves, president of MPI's UK and Irleand chapter, said: "At the chapter level, we are focussing on the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) programme, which is much broader in focus and the certification of choice for meeting professionals across the industry.

"The new MPI healthcare certification is a key item on the agenda for chapter leaders at the upcoming MPI WEC 2014 in Minneapolis and I look forward to discussing the best way to integrate it in the MPI chapters worldwide including the UK & Ireland marketplace."
MPI will deliver an enhanced HMCC course on 2 August 2014, ahead of its upcoming World Education Congress (WEC) at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minnesota, which runs from 2-5 August.
Cynthia D’Aoust, COO of MPI, said: "MPI is committed to providing the best education for our members and the broader meeting and event community – whether through partnerships, developing new content or acquiring existing programmes. We conducted an extensive audit of the HMCC program and believe the curriculum provides an excellent foundation for the growing healthcare meeting sector and its complex regulatory environment. Last year, we announced our strategic plan to provide education specifically for this segment of meeting professionals and the acquisition of the HMCC program is just the beginning."
