Wales: Food for thought

Wales is showcasing some of its best culinary offers. C&IT savours what's on offer for groups.

Food Adventure: Launched earlier this month, Food Adventure offers groups insight into Welsh food and drink producers, organising behind-the-scenes visits to vineyards, farms, restaurants and hotels across many popular south Wales foodie destinations, with the chance to meet independent and local producers and sample their produce. Attendees will also be able to enjoy foraging in the Welsh rural countryside and take part in food demonstrations from top chefs and cookery tutors.  

Wonderland teas: The St Tudno Hotel in Llandudno was once the holiday destination of Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration behind Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The hotel launched its Alice’s Mini Tea package this month, which includes English Breakfast tea, a choice of sandwich, a Queen of Hearts jam shortbread and an "eat me" cupcake. For groups of ten and more, the deluxe Alice’s Character Experience will feature the addition of two live characters from the Llandudno Alice Trail. The hotel’s Terrace Restaurant can hold a maximum of 60 people.
 
Restaurant James Sommerin: This fine dining restaurant opened in Penarth in mid-May, with breathtaking views over the Severn estuary. The 70-seat restaurant also has a private dining room and there are chef’s table experiences available for groups of up to four.  

Cardiff Mansion House: Group tours and afternoon teas are now available at Cardiff Mansion House, the official residence for the Mayor, a Grade II listed building situated in Cardiff city centre. Tours are led by the curator and manager and there is also the opportunity to take afternoon tea in the dining room.
