Jackie Boughton joins the Barbican's business events sales team as head of sales today (12 May).

The role will see Boughton work across the Barbican’s portfolio of venues to grow its presence in the domestic and international business events market. 

Boughton left Wembley Stadium last year after eight years. She has also spent 18 years with The Vienna Group and headed the HBAA's communications during its launch phase.

This appointment follows the departures of the Barbican's general manager Anthony Hyde earlier this year and also Samme Allen, head of sales and business events, who joined Twickenham Experience in January.

Boughton will work alongside Lee Dobson, head of event management, to create, sell and deliver the Barbican’s creative and events offering. Both will report to Barbican chief operating and financial officer, Sandeep Dwesar.

Boughton told C&IT: "I love the event world and I am really excited by this opportunity. I will head up an existing team of four people and will take the opportunity to re-look at the business. If it's not broken, I won't try to fix it.

"I have been a fan of the Barbican for many years. It is one of the world’s most successful and creative venues. The team at the Barbican are true professionals, they go far beyond just venue sales to creative client management, which in turn means they deliver outstanding events time and again. I can’t wait to join the team and look forward to seeing the impact my experience and knowledge will bring to the venue’s success."

Dwesar added: "Jackie is the perfect fit at the perfect time for our Business Events team.  

"She effortlessly combines strategic excellence with practical tried and tested sales experience – a balance of skills that will be vital to the Barbican long term.

"Jackie’s knowledge of the sector, which includes both hotel and venue management, was a key factor in our decision to appoint her.  In particular her extensive knowledge of London; strong relationships with key influencers and individuals; and experience at other unique venues made her the stand out candidate for the role."
