Dan started off as a club promoter and then went on to work at an events management company that focused on the creative industries, before joining Ashfield in 2008.

Boss says: "One of Dan's key roles is to interpret our client briefs and devise innovative and creative communication responses that fulfil their objectives," says Jo Brook, head of engagement. "His experience and knowledge, aligned with his business development skills, have been instrumental in the growth of existing accounts and also a large contributory factor in a number of new business wins."

Best event I've worked on: In 2006 we ran an event across lots of different and complex venues throughout London, from The Royal Opera House to Circus Space. It was a nice balance of venues and the content was really good.

Most challenging moment: We used a hotel in India for an event and we had assurances that it would be ready. However, we found out that they wouldn't serve alcohol and they hadn't booked generators. It was a catalogue of really testing challenges, but it was good fun in the end.

Client I'd like to work with: Red Bull do some really cool and quirky events and it would be nice to be involved in some of their work.

Alternative career: Catering, without a doubt. It's people-orientated and the pleasure you get from an event is the same as when you put a meal down in front of someone.

Goals before 40: To be in a senior management position within the company and have an input on the direction and strategy of the business.
