Ony green suppliers will participate in the World Expo 2020 in Dubai, with efforts being made to reduce carbon emissions, minimise waste and set an example for sustainability in the region.

Speaking at GIBTM in Abu Dhabi, Sandrine Le Biavant, divisional director for consulting at Farnek-Avireal, said: "Business travellers are increasingly prioritising green-certified hotels and venues and the destinations in turn are recognising that this is becoming a necessity and not just added value.

"In the last three years, Dubai and the UAE have led the way in sustainable development and the World Expo is already serving as a catalyst for event planners who are starting to question the green crednetials of venues and facilities they are using."

GIBTM, the Gulf Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition, is taking place from 24-26 March at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

The UAE is to host the largest incentive group in its history next week, with 14,500 delegates visiting the country from China.
