60 seconds with... Confex's Julian Agostini

Pre-registration numbers have increased but exhibitor figures are down year-on-year at International Confex 2014. C&IT caught up with the event's owner, Julian Agostini.

What has been the biggest challenge in delivering Confex this year?

People have been hurt by the show in the last few years. The industry wants Confex, but convincing them that we can put life back into the show has been a challenge. The event was also further back than we thought it was. We have 300 exhibitors, which is down on last year but pre-reg numbers are up. We don't know the exact figures yet, but we will publish them.

What can we expect from Confex next year?

It’s been alive in here today, so I’m really pleased. We’ve learnt a hell of a lot in the six months that we’ve had the show (International Confex was sold in September 2013). There are 100 things in my head on what we can do next year to move the show on. We won’t be able to do anything immediately, but after the show we will look at what we change.

Is a hosted buyer scheme on the cards?

A hosted buyer scheme isn’t in my plans but if the market place feels it’s essential then I can’t ignore that. At the moment, there is split opinion about it.
