Southport Conferences has won a number of new events, estimated to be worth £3m.

Southport Theatre & Convention Centre, the resort's flagship events venue, will host almost 3,000 delegates for a number of major national conferences over the next six years.

The events include AGLOW International, the return of the National Association of Retired Police Officers’ annual conference, and the General Assembly of the United Reformed Church, which will attract around 500 delegates.

The team at Southport Conferences has also worked with organisers to create incentive and activity programmes.

Councillor Ian Maher, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Tourism, commented: "Southport has always been popular as an incentive destination and increasingly our visitors are looking to us to help them arrange ideas outside of the working day or to book activities that they can enjoy if they extend their visits to Southport a little longer."

He added: "It is because of this that we have teamed up with various people across the industry to conduct further research in this area, to help us see actually what form these are taking, their duration etc, which will help us formalise these offerings as best as possible for the business traveller to utilise."
