W&O has announced the appointment of Andrew Gilkerson, who joined the agency as commercial director from Pfizer in February last year, as its new managing director with immediate effect.

Gilkerson takes over from outgoing managing director Sallie Coventry, who has been appointed as the new IBTM events portfolio director at Reed Travel Exhbitions.

Gilkerson Andrew previously worked as an account director with events specialists, Blueprint, before going on to lead the European meetings and congress category with global pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.

W&O said Gilkerson has played a key role in refining the agency's structure over the past year, including establishing the new sales team which is driving business development not only in healthcare, but also into new verticals, such as automotive and financial.

"This is a great opportunity," said Gilkerson, "We have some great plans for development at W&O in pursuit of our ambition to become one of the leading events companies in the UK.  The future looks exciting and I’m looking forward to leading our high-performing team."

Gilkerson was in C&IT's Power 50, the top 50 most influential people in the UK meetings and events industry, in both 2008 and 2009
