The works will be delivered in stages to ensure day-to-day operations continue as usual. Passenger check in, processing and departures will not be affected and retail and dining areas will be available for passengers.
"When we’ve finished, our International Terminal will be the most impressive and unique in Australia and completely different from anywhere else in the world," said Brisbane Airport Corporation chief executive and managing director Julieanne Alroe. "It will be something locals will be proud of and visitors will remember."
The city is also investing in a new underground bus and train network to ease congestion, with the first phases expected to start in 2015, with works scheduled to complete in 2021.
