Heineken site considered for Cork events development

BAM Contractors, and site owner Heineken Ireland, have planning permission for a £125m development project which will regenerate the Brewery Quarter in Cork City centre.

The plans include a new 6,000-seat arena and events centre, as well as further retail and office developments.

A report in the Irish Examiner says it is one of three multi-million-pound events centre proposals that have planning permission and are vying for government funding. Cork City Council has agreed to release a £13.3m ‘kick-start’ fund that will help the development of an events venue in the city centre.

Other development projects on the table include a £41.5m multi-purpose events and conference centre fronted by property developer Owen O’Callaghan. Planning permission has also been granted to property group, Howard Holdings, for a £27.4m events venue.

A site selection process will begin shortly to assess plans from each of the rival events centre projects.
