A host of excited music fans from the events industry gathered last night (11 December) to record their own version of a classic inside one of the most famous musical landmarks in the world.
The group, predominantly made up of event planners, formed a 50-person choir and – with the help of a professional voice coach – recorded their own rendition of The Beatles classic, ‘Help!’
The Record-A-Song event is part of an incentive package offered to corporate groups which includes a CD copy of the final recording.
The evening took place in Abbey Road’s ‘Studio 2’, the room in which The Beatles recorded the majority of their songs alongside other world-famous recording artists. The evening began with a Champagne reception and a video presentation celebrating the 82-year heritage of the musical landmark.
The organisers showed attendees around the rest of Abbey Road including Studio 1 which, as well as being the largest studio in the world, is famed for recording the music to iconic films such as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Jeremy Huffelmann, events manager at Abbey Road Studios, believes that both the venues history and exclusivity is part of its international appeal: "As a venue it is unique. It has a huge history of some of the greatest artists and some of the biggest recordings. People get to spend time in the places where those recordings were made and soak up the history, while having a great evening."
He continued: "Abbey Road Studios is a recording studio first and foremost and we have always been keen to offer exclusivity to our events clients."
Leanne Marshal, senior marketing manager for EE, attended the event and said: "It’s something completely different. Abbey Road isn’t open to the public and it gives it an edge. It’s a pull to come along to the event because it’s not something you can do anywhere else. Tonight we have a whole load of strangers who are chatting and getting on and just letting go."
Abbey Road Recording Studios, who work in partnership with Perception, host facilities fit for conferences up to 300 people, small meetings, gala dinners and award ceremonies.
