Destination Guide: Norway

Spotlight on Alta

For those seeking something out of the ordinary, Alta is the ultimate northern lights destination at the top of Norway.

Getting there: Alta is the gateway to Finnmark, Norway's northernmost county. Situated on the edge of Europe at the same latitude as Siberia and Alaska, it is a one hour and 45 minute flight from Oslo. The airport is four kilometres from the town centre.

Meeting spaces: The largest conference hall, at Rica Hotel Alta, can host up to 650 guests in a cinema style layout. A variety of conference venues including cinemas, culture and sport halls can all be found nearby. The largest of these can host 2,000 delegates and is located five minutes from the town centre. For a meeting with a difference, head to the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel. Situated in a peaceful forest area 15 kilometres from the centre of Alta, the venue offers an icy meeting room for up to 25 delegates.

Incentive activities: Groups can test their driving skills with a snowmobile safari or a dog sledge safari, where two people ride on each sledge, supervised by experienced instructors. For a memorable Arctic experience, take part in a king crab safari in the area around North Cape.
