Its expansion in the area is part of the group’s plans to have 100 hotels open or in the pipeline in Russia and the CIS by 2020. It currently has 19 hotels open and a further 10 in the pipeline.

Holiday Inn Express Naberezhnye-Chelny is the third hotel the company has signed as part of a multiple development franchise agreement reached in March with Regional Hotel Chain, a portfolio company of VIY Management, to develop 15 new hotels in Russia by 2019.

The 145-room new-build hotel, which will open in the second quarter if 2015, will be the first internationally branded hotel in the local area.

The 145-room Holiday Inn Express Samara will operate under a franchise agreement with Rosa Mira Group. An office conversion, the hotel is due to open at the end of 2015. Samara, in Russia, is a host city for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The 115-room Staybridge Suites Baku hotel will be the first branded extended-stay hotel in Azerbaijan’s capital. It will be operated under a franchise agreement with Asnaf Alkon Group.

Robert Shepherd, IHG chief development officer, Europe, said: "These three signings demonstrate IHG delivering its growth ambition across Russia and the CIS. We continue to see considerable headroom for growth here, particularly in the mid-scale and upper-mid scale segments. The Holiday Inn Express brand is gaining great momentum across Europe and despite being a new hotel brand in Russia, we’re delighted it is being so positively received in this region."
