C&IT Award winners: Best Use of Technology and/or Social Media

Best Use of Technology and/or Social Media at the C&IT Awards went to BP Technology Experience, by agency Jack Morton Worldwide.

Jack Morton was briefed to tell BP's technology story during the London 2012 Olympics, to reach the energy giant's clients, prospective clients and audiences including national oil companies, analysts and government officials.

The challenge was to convey a complex technology story to a disparate audience, in the midst of the brand mayhem of the Games.

Using theatrical and CGI techniques at the Royal Opera House, London, Jack Morton created an experience that included an LED-lit entrance pathway; a More Discovery room where, in conjunction with projection techniques, an apparently normal floor dropped six metres to showcase BP's underground and undersea exploration; and a More Efficiency finale, where attendees were surrounded by a kinetic space demonstrating BP's energy-efficient technologies.

With 20 shows per day over three weeks, more than 2,000 people from BP's target audiences went through the experience, with 95.5% rating it highly.
