C&IT Awards winners: Agency of the Year

On the back of a record turnover year and its 10th anniversary, events agency Smyle took C&IT's prestigious Agency of the Year award.

The Hertford-based agency has not merely relied on a consistent flow of existing business, however. The total number of projects it handled increased from 211 in 2011/12 to 235 in 2012/13; while the company achieved a record gross profit of £2.55m in 2012/13, an increase of 32% on the previous year.

Much of its impressive performance is down to strong client relationships. The agency's total client attrition rate was just 5%.

Smyle has also been adding new business. New high-profile clients on its books include Roche, Ralph Lauren, BBC, Universal Music and Vodafone.

But the agency does not merely look outwards; it continues to recruit and invest in staff training. Headcount was up 21% on the previous year, from 29 to 35 full-time staff.
