Butlins, in Bognor Regis on the south coast, opened its new-look fairground in March following a £1m refurbishment. The attraction is an optional add-on for delegates holding conferences and events at the resort and companies can have exclusive use of the fairground.
Along the coast in Exeter, the Hampton by Hilton Exeter Airport hotel opened its doors in May. Less than a mile from Exeter International Airport, the 120-room hotel offers access to 26 conference and meeting rooms in Flybe Airlines' training academy, located next door.
The Brighton Centre is the largest purpose-built conference and meetings venue on the south coast. An extensive refurbishment programme began in 2012 and is ongoing. Improvements so far include the addition of a new glass facade giving panoramic views of the seafront, an extended foyer area, modernised interiors, and enhanced meeting facilities for up to 5,000 delegates.
In Torquay, a facelift project is under way at the Riviera International Centre, which includes refurbishments to the roof, the air-conditioning and the boilers. The purpose-built conference and leisure facility has a 1,500-seat auditorium and offers 1,750m2 of exhibition space, nine breakout rooms and a health and fitness suite.
In North Berwick, East Lothian in Scotland, Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa has invested £250,000 in refurbishing some of its premier rooms. The project, completed in May, involved 13 bedrooms, including three junior suites, an executive four-poster suite, and three turret suites. The hotel offers a range of conference facilities: the largest, the Bass Rock suite, can hold up to 300 delegates.
