Bandell, who joins the Tring, Hertfordshire office on 1 August, previously headed up BI Worldwide's Shanghai office, handling customer relationship management, loyalty, database marketing, customer, channel and employee engagement and events.

The Grass Roots Board will comprise Bandell, chief operating officer Andy Lister and finance director Russell Clutton, supported by non-executive industry specialists and representatives from majority shareholder WPP.

Grass Roots Eventcom chairman David Hackett said: "Bandell brings considerable experience of emerging markets and managing change. He also has the "outstanding leadership qualities and the charisma that we will need to put Grass Roots back in pole position. Grass Roots still has enormous opportunities ahead of it, both in the UK and overseas. I look forward to working with Board colleagues and the talented and experienced teams across the business to help build on the outstanding work for clients upon which the company's success is based."

Grass Roots also hopes to appoint a sales and marketing director to the board over the coming months which is planned to be announced soon.

The news comes after the departure of Warren Hillier.
