The team comprises 12 people who manage travel, accommodation and meeting arrangements for Uefa 's major competitions, including the Champions League and the Europe League, as well as conferences for Uefa's national association members. These events include meetings for coaches, referees, fans and security staff.

The first events Henry will overseee include the 2013 Under-21 Championship in Israel this month and the Women's Euro in Sweden in July, as well as a two-day strategy meeting for 250 delegates from Uefa's 54 national associations on 17-18 September 2013. The conference is being held at the Dubrovnik Palace in Croatia.

Henry said: "Each year, the team books 35,000 flights and 40,000 room nights. Some 60% of my role will focus on Uefa's football competitions, although 40% of my time is spent organising conferences and meetings for our members."

Henry succeeds Panos Tzivanidis, who held the role for two years before joining the International Olympic Committee this week as head of business events and accommodation.

Henry added: "Panos did an excellent job and I aim to keep the same high levels of service and excellence that he implemented."

More: Uefa recently appointed agency Pitch to organise the Champions League Festival last month in London.
