From July this year, the northern end of the park will offer 30,000sqm of landscaped outdoor spaces as well as scenic areas where events can be staged adjacent to the River Lea. Around the Copper Box there will be a further 20,000sqm of space.

The North Park will also have its own café with available space for 80 indoor diners and an outdoor seating area for 120, set in lawn enclosed by hazel woodland.

From Spring 2014, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will be fully open, with more than a dozen outdoor event spaces available including the ArcelorMittal Orbit and the South Park Lawn, suitable for concerts, outdoor shows, festivals and cultural events.

Stratford Waterfront, a riverside space covering 20,000sqm and the South Park Plaza, the centrepiece of the South Park, will bring together the river, lawn and park venues and link them to the rest of the park.

"The Plaza is made up of a series of ‘outdoor rooms’ each one is themed and provides a variety of event opportunities," said Clive Little, director of events and programming at the London Legacy Development Corporation. "There will also be the South Park Hub, sitting at the base of the ArcelorMittal Orbit and Stadium. It will offer contrasting, dynamic spaces for more intimate events with a creative feel, from a drinks reception on the roof terrace to a private concert, dinner and drinks."
