WPP, which is fronted by Martin Sorrell and lists Grass Roots as an 'associate', has been a shareholder in the company for more than 30 years.

Alongside Lister, the new non executive directors, all from WPP, are:

  • Paul Delaney
  • Julian Povey
  • John Marsh
  • Jonathan Eggar
  • Christopher Sweetland

Grass Roots group communications executive Charlotte Jackson said that the non executive directors play a vital role in determining strategy and supporting the executive directors with the running of the Group. "They were invited to have a minority representation on the board in line with their minority shareholding," she added.

The appointment of marketing specialists from WPP follows Grass Roots appointment of Ernst & Young's deputy managing partner Richard King last month.

King's appointment was described by Evans – who left the company last week – as a move to "broad[en] intellectual supervision" at Grass Roots.
