MCI South Africa, which opened on 1 February, has already secured the Principals Association of South Africa as a client.

Tamlynne Wilton has been recruited from a local PCO in Johannesburg to lead the office as business development director.

The office will be complemented by MCI’s sister company and DMC, Ovation, which opened in Cape Town three years ago.

David Sand, managing director of Ovation South Africa, said: "MCI has expanded because it sees huge potential in Africa and some of its global core PCO mandates are starting to rotate to this region of the world. MCI South Africa will provide PCO services and we will add association management services at a later date."

Wilton said: "Cape Town already has 800 conferences secured until 2020 and MCI’s research division in China has carried out lots of research into associations. Both of these create lots of leads for MCI South Africa to tap into. We will focus on key industries that are likely to secure governmental support, such as mining, health, education, agriculture and trade."
