PCMA annual conference 2013 kicks off with CSR programme

The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) will deliver hands-on volunteer efforts and financial help to several local charities at its annual meeting this week in Orlando, Florida.

Convening Leaders, which runs from 13 to 16 January 2013, will today (14 January) see 1,200-plus meeting professionals attending a Party with a Purpose (PWAP), with the proceeds of ticket sales going to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, PCMA’s Network for the Needy and the PCMA Education Foundation.

In its 20th year, PWAP has raised more than £1.1 million for a range of notable causes.

Yesterday, as part of the PCMA's Hospitality Helping Hands programme, attendees served breakfast, worked on arts and crafts projects with children and helped clean playground and office facilities to keep the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida's headquarters ready to welcome those in need. Attendees also helped the Clean the World Foundation by sanitizing, recycling and packaging soap for needy families.

The PCMA's Network for the Needy Donation Drive saw delegates bringing paper, crayons, markers and other school supplies to help underprivileged children via A Gift for Teaching. In a new addition to the Convening Leaders programme, attendees can also make on-site contributions in the Corporate Social Responsibility lounge.

Deborah Sexton, president and CEO of the PCMA, said: "Our members and their organisations will benefit from the outstanding facilities and the hard-working people here in Orlando. These programmes are one way of expressing our sincere thanks to this tremendous community.

"After our members leave, we hope these donations will leave a lasting impact for the families, students and teachers who need assistance in central Florida."
