C&IT Big Debate: Are client lead-times increasing?

In December last year, Motivcom events managing director Nigel Cooper told C&IT that his event business was experiencing the longest lead-times in five years, a trend he attributed to greater confidence among corporates.

Are client lead-times getting longer?
Are client lead-times getting longer?

But Cooper's comments came just months after the Hotel Booking Agents Association (HBAA) published research showing that short lead times were among the main challenges faced by agencies.

So, what is the reality? C&IT is asking agency event planners to share their own experiences:

  • Are lead-times getting longer?
  • If yes, is it a trend that is more prevalent within particular industry sectors, among clients of a certain size, or for different types of event?
  • If no, what is your experience – are they getting shorter, or is there no change?
  • What do you think is driving longer lead-times – greater confidence among clients, more stable budgeting practice, greater confidence in the market etc?
  • Do you foresee lead-times growing even longer?
