King – who spent more than 35 years working for professional services company Ernst & Young – joined the seven-strong board at Grass Roots Group for its first meeting of 2013 yesterday (3 January).
Grass Roots Group chairman David Evans told C&IT that King was a "very distinguished" addition to the main board.
"I felt for some time we needed a much stronger board of non-executive directors, and as a global business we want to make sure we have got a lot of skills represented," said Evans.
The board now comprises executive directors Evans, Russell Clutton as financial director and Helen O’Byrne as general counsel, with non-executive directors King, David Hackett and Nathaniel Solomon. Andrew Scott also sits on the board.
"We need broad intellectual supervision across the globe and they are all very experienced," added Evans. "[Clients] are beginning to recognise they need global services and we operate in 92 countries around the world so the board will be looking at strategy worldwide, and how we make money from that."
