The global paints company – which includes the Dulux brand – has appointed Worldspan Group for the first time.

The first project the Worldspan team has completed for Akzo Nobel NV is a series of hospitality events held for waves of clients during the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo at the end of November.

Worldspan Group commercial director Jason Wilcock said the agency was delighted with the account win.

"It was a prestigious event for Akzo Nobel NV," he added. "We have had a really strong start to our new financial year."

The North Wales-based agency has this month filed its annual accounts at Companies House, showing an uplift in its gross profit of 8%.

Gross profit for the period June 2011 to June 2012 is £1.47m, up from £1.36m in the previous year’s audited accounts.

New clients in that period had included Vodafone.

Akzo Nobel NV is among new accounts for the current financial year - June 2012-June 2013 – and Wilcock added the agency expected a buoyant start to 2013.

"With the pipeline of projects we have got for existing and new clients, we feel very strongly about this financial year," he said.

Worldspan Group has this year celebrated its 40th anniversary, and Wilcock added 2012 had been a "really exciting year for us celebrating with the team".
