De Bois invites industry to submit evidence for 2013 inquiry

MP Nick de Bois, chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Events (APPG), has called on the industry to submit evidence ahead of a government inquiry into events.

Speaking to C&IT, de Bois said that APPG's evidence-based inquiry, news of which was revealed earlier this month, would look at how government can better support the UK’s event industry, examining issues such as how greater government support could help the UK compete more effectively on the international conference market.

He said that anyone interested in submitting evidence should write to him. "We want written evidence, which we’ll analyse and test in the inquiry," he added.

The APPG, which is being supported by a secretariat pulled from Britain for Events and International Confex, will select a panel of MPs and industry figures to preside over the inquiry. Evidence will be collated before being presented to the industry at International Confex in March and then debated in Pariiament.

Read the forthcoming January edition of C&IT to see the industry's reaction to the APPG inquiry.
