Heijkoop said that the meeting industry can use "the power of networks"  to encourage delegates discuss an event.

"Planners should not fear open discussion. The Power of user generated content means that any negative comments encourage positive ones in response as people feel a sense of injustice," he added.? ?He added that social media means that contact never needs to go "cold" between two parties.

"When you meet a person in real life, you can discuss things you have learnt about them - like if they recently moved house," he added.

Elsewhere, Heijkoop discussed the priorities of a social media strategy. "You should first ensure those directly involved in a project have contact to each other via social media, then rest of their followers will hear."? ?He also discussed using a personal touch to engage key followers. "Do something nice for a few people, and they will be keen to share the gesture with others," he added.
