Hughes is the managing partner of MCHA, the current chair of Eventia and former director of live events for the Central Office of Information (COI).

Ernest Vincent, chief executive, The QEIICC said that Hughes will bring a wealth of experience of live events to the Centre at a time when it is exploring new avenues for growth.

"Simon’s appointment coincides with that of Alison White who will take over responsibilities as chair of the Centre’s Audit Committee. Alison, a chartered accountant, also has immense experience of both the private and public sectors. The role of The QEIICC non-executive directors is to bring experience and knowledge to the Centre as well as being an independent challenge to the executive team."

Hughes added: "Having delivered lots of events at The QEIICC over the years, I have a real insight into both the opportunities and challenges that it faces at the moment. It may be located in the very heart of London, but it's not just about a great location; it’s a venue that offers great spaces coupled with fantastic service and a passion for getting it right. Everyone that works there and the many clients that love holding events there; we all need to remind people of these qualities."

Hughes’ appointment commences next month.
