Aberdeen rises up the international conference rankings

Aberdeen has risen up the rankings in two industry rankings tables by progressively increasing the number of international conferences hosted in the City.

The Union of International Associations (UIA) has recently released its 2011 data, and shows Aberdeen rising from ninth position in the UK in 2010 to fifth equal, with Newcastle and Cambridge.

The UIA data criteria is based on international meetings and conferences of more than 300 delegates and the statistics are based on information statistically collected by the UIA, according to strict criteria maintained over the past 63 years since this study first began.

Also just released is the latest data from the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), with Aberdeen making the UK Top 10 list for the first time. Aberdeen is in at ninth place, equal with Leeds.

Brian Horsburgh, managing director of the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, said: "These results clearly show that we are attracting a progressively increasing number of international conferences to Aberdeen, which is excellent news for the local economy."
