London top choice for US event planners

London has been voted the best city to host international meetings by almost a quarter (22%) of North American event planners, according to a new survey.

In the perception-based report, titled 'A View from Meetings Planners: Winning Strategies in Destination Marketing', Barcelona and Paris tied for second in the rankings (10.1 %), and Singapore (7.3%) and Hong Kong (6.2%) followed suit respectively.


In the perception contest for best countries to host a meeting, Italy came out top with 8.4 per cent of the vote, followed by the UK (7.3%), Spain (6.7%), France (5.6%) and Australia (5.1%).
The best cities for North American meetings are perceived as Chicago (20.8%), San Diego (18.5%), San Francisco (18%), Las Vega (16.3%) and New York City (14%).


The survey also revealed that the convention bureaus perceived as the most helpful in meeting the needs of meeting planners are London (14.8%), Singapore (9.9%), Barcelona (6.3%), Amsterdam (5.6%) and Vienna (5.6%).


Conducted by the Development Counsellors International (DCI), a total of 187 responses were received, of which 106 were associations, 78  from corporations and three from association management companies.
