GFK Retail and Technology UK, a market research company, held an internal communications day on 27 April in a marquee at The Conservatory at Painshill Park.

The venue, an 18th-century building set within 160 acres in Cobham, Surrey, was chosen for its proximity to GFK's office and the layout of the marquee within beautiful surroundings.

The event aimed to update 170 employees on key developments and recognise and celebrate talent at the company. Delegates arrived mid-morning for tea and coffee, with a welcome speech by GFK's commercial director, followed by two presentations from the managing director and the operations director. Delegates enjoyed a buffet lunch, with a further presentation from the management team.

The marquee adjoined a building, providing space and easy access for the buffet and for socialising over drinks. "The tranquil surroundings created an idyllic backdrop," says Sue Creedon, PA to the managing director and event organiser.

The venue worked well because of the flexibility of the space and staff - and the venue ensured that GFK's identity was prominent, with orange, the colour of the company's logo, displayed throughout the marquee.
