Olympics will "deliver incredible legacy" says Boris Johnson

Mayor of London Boris Johnson estimates that around nine million people will visit the Olympic Park every year and that it will become one of the top ten must-see sights in London following the success of the Games.

Speaking at a press conference on Olympics Legacy, Johnson said: "These London Olympics have been the moment that we saw ourselves in a new light. We have shown that we can finish a major project on time and under budget, that we can move an unprecedented number of people around the city safely and we can put on the greatest show on earth."

He refused to gloat to the Olympic sceptics who said the focus should now be on delivering an incredible legacy that will set the benchmark for future host cities.

Johnson said that London was already in a better position than most Olympic host cities at this stage, with the future of six out of eight venues on the Olympic park already secured and bids on the table for the Olympic Stadium and the Press and Broadcast Centre.

"We now have a sense of our abilities and have proved to the doubters what we can achieve. It’s been an amazing display of what you can do if you plan," said Johnson. "If we take a cue from our team GB athletes, we can turn these Games to gold for decades to come."

He said that the world-class sporting facilities had already helped the capital to win a number of large sporting events in the future, but did not comment on how London would capitalise on the Games to attract non-sporting events such as large business and association conferences.
