Around 2,000 delegates are expected to attend the four-day event.
The bid, which was presented and selected at this year’s EAPM congress in Paris, was a collaborative effort from Maastricht University Centre, the Maastricht Convention Bureau, the MECC and other significant parties in the region.
The presentation included a promotional film of Maastricht. Sonja Opreij-Speth, Conventions Sales Manager Conventions of the Maastricht Convention Bureau said: "The promotional film had a clear added value in convincing the voters. It was shown in a modified version and got the viewer carried away in the many possibilities of Maastricht and the surrounding area for both business and leisure."
Mirjam Theunissen, responsible for congresses related to the Maastricht Health Campus and speaking on behalf of the MECC, said: "This is absolutely a confirmation that by working together with the right partners, a lot can be achieved in such a short period of time."
