Gas conference achieves record attendance in Kuala Lumpur

The 25th World Gas Conference (WGC) 2012 attracted a record-breaking 5,299 delegates from 90 countries last month at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia.

The event also attracted 13,803 visitors to the exhibition, including exhibitors from 43 countries around the world.

The conference itself saw more than 712 abstracts submitted – another record number for the event and the International Gas Union (IGU), which formed part of the organising committee alongside the Malaysian Gas Union.

The WGC 2012 marked the event’s 25th anniversary and to celebrate the occasion, the organising committee put together the inaugural Kuala Lumpur International Music & Light Festival with performances from some of the best ethnic bands from this region. There were also light and fireworks displays each night of the conference.

Another significant mark for the WGC in Malaysia was the introduction of a Youth Forum. Around 216 young people from around the world were invited to share their views, hopes and aspirations with regards to the gas industry. The inclusion of young people is part of a wider objective to enthuse the younger generation and to ensure a constant pipeline of fresh talent into the industry.

The conference in Kuala Lumpur was held from 4 to 8 June 2012.
