The events agency is working with universities across the UK and received 45 applications to its assessment centre, from which 12 were shortlisted. The process included individual presentations, group exercises, a tour of Universal World Events’ HQ and a company overview presentation and Q&A session.

The four successful candidates will join Universal World Events for a year as part of their degree course. The selected four are Laura Callaghan, who is studying event management at Leeds Metropolitan University; Jessica Dodsley, who is studying event management at Sheffield Hallam University; Laura Paddock who is taking a degree in event management at the University of Chester; and Hannah Schofield, who is studying marketing at Plymouth University.

Denise Abbott, Universal World Events’ country director, said: "This is a brand new scheme we have implemented to demonstrate our commitment to the Universities offering event management degrees.

"Although the academic background is important, we understand that staff learn vital event management skills ‘on the job’ and not just in the classroom, and so we are very pleased to offer these valuable placements to our lucky candidates. We look forward to seeing their event careers flourish."
