Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has appointed Jo Dean to the newly created position of meetings and events (M&E) development manager, working across the group's Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza brands.

She joins the firm from Hilton Group, where she spent 15 years in a number of roles, including conference and banqueting development manager.

Her role at IHG is to "develop and motivate" IHG’s M&E teams spanning its properties. Her appointment is the latest move by IHG in its mission to become the market leader in the M&E sector, which has included moves such as last year's appointment of David Taylor as M&E chief.

Dean said: "What many people don’t realise is that M&E touches all areas of the business – it books meeting space, rooms and accommodation; food and beverage; spa, gym and leisure facilities and also requires technical services such as wi-fi and equipment services. We really do utilise all parts of the hotel and our department is a huge driver of spend."

Earlier this year, IHG gained Aim accreditation from the Meetings Industry Association, while Holiday Inn announced in September 2011 that it was investing £1m in training its staff.
