The event is expected to attract more than 1,000 delegates.

The Istanbul Convention & Visitors Bureau (ICVB) and the Energy Management Regulatory Authority of Turkey (EMRA) presented the bid in Quebec at this year’s forum in May, beating Mexico City and St. Petersburg.

In 2010, Istanbul broke into ICCA’s top 10 congress destinations and is currently ranked as the 9th most popular city in the world for international association meetings.

Elif Balci Fisunoglu, general manager of ICVB, said: "This victory is another reflection of Istanbul having put down roots in the top 10 most popular congress destinations worldwide. We are very pleased to see that Istanbul is increasingly the venue of choice for the most prestigious international congresses."
