MCI moves up State of the Industry ranking following Oxford International deal

Agency MCI's purchase of Oxford International gives it a combined UK event-based turnover of £10.4m, effectively moving the new entity into 16th position in C&IT's State of the Industry report.

The report, which featured in the May issue of the magazine, ranked MCI UK in 22nd position and Oxford International in joint 32nd.

News of MCI's acquisition of the Oxford-based agency broke last month (May), coinciding with an announcement that MCI's global gross margin had grown 14% to £74m. John Walker, Oxford International's managing director, said the deal would enable it to better compete for business, as corporates are increasingly looking for "global, multi-service organisations"; while MCI said the deal would allow it to "further consolidate" its UK market position.

Oxford International will continue to work out of its Oxford offices, while MCI has offices in 47 cities across Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and America.
