The London venue has been given silver accreditation by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) for its recycling and sustainable tourism efforts.

Measures including lowering energy usage, composting used coffee grounds and introducing QR codes to replace marketing paperwork were factors that contributed to One Wimpole Street scoring five points out of five.

Nigel Collett, One Wimpole Street's operations director, said: "We take sustainability and environmental issues very seriously and are delighted that our ‘thinking green’ efforts have been recognised by GTBS, as more and more conference and event organisers are looking for venues with proven sustainable working practices.

Responsible tourism is something that event organisers have to consider in line with every aspect of an event and it is important to us that we can offer them a venue which fits their requirements. We are very pleased to have improved our score over the past year and we are now working towards achieving the gold accreditation."
