Thailand up 17% on 2011 MICE target, but cautious over 2012 forecast

Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau has told C&IT at Imex that it exceeded its total MICE visitor target for 2011 by 16%, but says 2012 remains uncertain.

Thailand last year welcomed 840,000 MICE visitors, but had forecast for 720,000.

Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau senior manager Vichaya Soonthornsaratoon said that uncertainty surrounding the flooding reaction caused the comparatively low 2011 forecase figure, however she added that 2012's numbers could be below expectations - with predictions currently at 750,000 MICE visitors.

"We rely very much on the European market and after the well-publicised problems with the Euro, it is too early to say if we will meet our targets," she commented.

Thailand also revealed that it finished 2011 8.8% up on European MICE visitors compared to 2010.
